Bankruptcies Continue Modest Downward Trend

Personal bankruptcies during the first month of 2005 continued the modest downward trend that characterized 2004. At the end of January 2005, the total number of personal bankruptcy petitions filed was 2.9 percent lower than for the first month of 2004. The data in the chart below on weekly bankruptcy filings for the past four years were provided by the National Bankruptcy Research Center (Lundquist Consulting, Burlingame, CA).
